The Beach feeding Index 1972-2018 has been processed by AGSS-RER. The analysis concern the entire Emilia-Romagna coastline between the Po di Goro river mouth and Cattolica (the Tavollo river mouth).
The indicator describes the volumes of sand recharged in the coastal systems from 1972 to 2018 in regional beaches to increase their height and width, to improve the storm protection of the hinterland and to provide adequate space for tourist activities.
Sources of materials can be external the coastal system (off-shore sites, quarries, construction sites, excavations for enlargements of harbour areas, or sorted material derived from beach cleaning) or internal (harbour and river mouths dredgings, lithoral accumulations).
The value is assigned to each “coastal cell” in wich the Emilia-Romagna shoreline has been classified in order to support coastal management.
